Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal works by emitting a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment in hair follicles, gently disrupting the follicle and inhibiting future growth while the surrounding skin remains unaffected. Over multiple sessions, it provides a permanent reduction in hair growth.

FAQ
Laser hair removal questions, answered
Who is laser hair removal best for?
Our laser hair treatment is safe for all skin types and tones, but it's ideal for those with darker hair. Safety meets effectiveness in every session.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Laser hair removal is less painful than waxing, and quicker too! The sensation varies, with some describing it as tiny pinpricks, while others feel almost nothing. Initial treatments may cause a slight stinging sensation, especially in sensitive areas, but it's generally well-tolerated. As sessions progress, discomfort reduces as hair becomes sparser. Our Zimmer chiller ensures added comfort with cold air during treatments.
Is laser hair removal an effective solution for folliculitis (razor bumps)?
Folliculitis, often caused by shaving, is the inflammation of hair follicles. It can result in red, itchy, and sometimes painful bumps, commonly known as razor bumps or ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal can be a solution as it works to reduce and eventually eliminate hair growth, thereby reducing the occurrence of ingrown hairs and inflammation associated with shaving. By targeting the hair follicles, laser hair removal provides a long-term solution, minimizing the need for frequent shaving and decreasing the risk of folliculitis.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Like any cosmetic procedure, laser hair removal carries the potential for side effects. However, these reactions are generally short-term, encompassing minimal redness, folliculitis, itching, and/or laser bumps, which typically resolve within days to weeks post-procedure. To minimize complications and ensure optimal results, it's crucial to adhere to pre and post-care instructions after each treatment, such as limiting sun exposure two weeks before treatment and avoiding steam rooms, saunas, and exercise/sweating for 24 hours post-treatment. For added safety, always discuss your medical history and potential risks with your physician before undergoing treatment.
Is laser hair removal effective on dark skin tones?
Myth: laser hair removal excludes darker skin. Contrary to outdated beliefs, recent advancements in laser technology allow safe and effective treatment for all skin tones, using Nd:YAG and Alexandrite laser technology that is FDA-cleared for permanent hair reduction.
The Nd:YAG laser, with its remarkable ability to distinguish pigmentation subtleties, effectively removes dark hair on any skin tone. Its longer wavelength ensures safety for darker skin, enabling effective and comfortable laser hair removal with minimal risk of complications. Say goodbye to the myth: laser hair removal is for everyone!
Can laser hair removal help with hair growth associated with PCOS?
Laser hair removal can be a beneficial option for managing excessive hair growth associated with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). It helps reduce and manage unwanted hair, providing relief from one of the symptoms of PCOS. However, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to discuss personalized treatment plans and address other aspects of PCOS management.
Is laser hair removal suitable for all parts of the body?
Yes, laser hair removal is a versatile procedure that can be performed on various body parts. Common areas include the face, legs, underarms, bikini line, chest, back, and more. It's essential to consult with a professional to determine suitability for specific body parts and discuss individualized treatment plans.
What skin tones respond best to laser hair removal?
Because laser hair removal works by selectively targeting the melanin in hair follicles, patients with high color contrast, such as dark hair and light skin, tend to respond best. However, effective options exist for diverse hair and skin combinations. The Nd:YAG laser, particularly suitable for darker skin and hair, has a longer wavelength and successfully treats various skin tones while precisely targeting hair follicles.
Nudeskin uses the Cynosure Elite IQ, a dual-wavelength laser FDA-cleared for permanent hair reduction on all skin types. The primary challenge lies in treating red, gray, white, or blonde hair, as laser removal depends on targeting melanin in hair follicles. For the best experience, discuss your medical history and potential side effects with your clinician before treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair follicles must be in the active growth (anagen) phase to be successfully targeted with the laser. On average you will need six to eight sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, for optimal results. Progressively, you'll observe hair becoming finer, sparser, and slower to regrow, accompanied by smoother, softer skin in the treated area.
Approximately after six to eight sessions, experience up to an 80% permanent reduction in treated hair. Individual results vary, influenced by factors like hair density, type, adherence to pre-care instructions, and treatment spacing.
Can I get laser hair removal if I'm pregnant?
We recommend avoiding laser hair removal during pregnancy.
Can my teenager get laser hair removal?
We cannot treat anyone under the age of 16, and require parental consent for those aged 16 and 17.
When will I see results?
Hair typically starts shedding approximately 2 weeks post-treatment. Completing the recommended sessions is crucial for optimal and lasting results. The number of sessions, ranging from 6-10, depends on factors like hair growth, type, color, and the treated area. For optimal scheduling, face appointments should be spaced about 4 weeks apart, and body appointments about 6 weeks apart.
